So the basement renovations are almost done and Valerie and I will soon be 'moving in' (although we're already there) and treating it as our verruh own pad. As such, we come to need various devices one normally takes for granted.. so we're gonna off and buy some stuff.. but before we do that, I thought we might as well just put the word out to see if anyone has stuff that's usable but lying around not getting any.

We are on the lookout for include things such as
-microwave
-toaster oven
-pans or pots
-general cookware
-baking shiz
-tv stand
-broom

No need to look hard, just let us know if you have something that may be appropriate.

It will all make the kick off party (details pending) that much homier.

    <lj:music>The mother K fucking L fucking F</lj:music>

YO.
Hey.
I don't really have my own site anymore, so I guess I can stoop to using lj. Beautiful beautiful lj. ooooh my back.

Anyway. I'm living in London again on a permanent basis. Theoretically that means I'm looking for a job.. we'll see how that goes.

There's a few points I thought I'd let you in on.
if you go to http://www.theatreinlondon.ca/auditions/index_auditions.htm and scroll down to the 8.22 entry.. there's a call for scripts.. mainly 10 minute ones using up to 4 actors that deal with the theme 'the sacred and the wild'. and you have till october 31 to write one.. so why not give it a shot. I intend to see if I can come up with anything interesting.

I went to an audition for Death of a Salesman on Tuesday. That didn't go so well. I tried to learn a monologue that day and impress people with it. not a good idea. at least not for me. The director, whose name I've forgotten, seemed rather outspoken, and he said he "might have a small part" for me. but since I've not heard anything I assume that's a no-go. There's auditions next week for 'the pizza joint' and some coming up for some Western related thing which I will have to get the details for from Carolyn (i saw your name on the death of a salesman audition sheet, btw, i guess you didn't end up turning up). I don't fancy myself much of an actor, but being in a play would keep me from becoming too artistically lazy and maybe meet me some likeminded artsy types

Also some interesting music things happening in London upcoming..

Fri Aug 14 - Spiral Beach Live at the Alex P Keaton. Great fun young band I have had the pleasure of seeing before, and was impressed enough to buy their CD. You don't see me buying CDs often, so you know that's a pretty good endorsement. Also, it's pay what you can.. so.. cool!

The weekend after that is the motherfucking LOLA festival, which is very cool and a bit unprecedented as far as London goes. non-indie music fans might not see the great deal about the constantines, prefuse 73, grizzly bear, final fantasy, beach house, akron/family and a whole bunch more playing in LONDON of all places for FREE. But I for one am extremely stoked. plus the general idea of the fest is way cool. I sorta wish I had a sort of portable recording device so I could go around and do interviews and stuff and make an audio feature for my podcast, because that would be so fun, but I don't really. So it can remain a dream.

The annoying thing about this, is that there is another unprecedented event happening in Toronto on the Saturday evening.. my second favourite band in the world is finally leaving Australia and coming to Toronto to play a gig. (that's Augie March). !!!!!. Except. EXCEPT. that they're opening for some other band that I don't really give a shit about. That's annoying. I mean, how long will they play for? will they just play stuff from their new album that I don't like particularly? Is it gonna be worth missing seeing the constantines and akron/family for FREE and going all the way to TO for? Hrm.

Ok, then you have Caribou playing at Call the Office on Monday, Oct 1. The new Caribou album was sitting as my favourite album of the year for a while, because it's utterly awesome. It's just a joyful thrill. He took the ultra-busy millions of (well-synthesized) instruments technique of previous albums and plopped in some wonderfully listenable melodies and vocals. Damon approves wholeheartedly. So I'm going to be at that show.
Chad VanGaalen, Besnard Lakes and Malajube are also playing at CTO in the next few months. I may see those, if there's nothing better to do.

Then of course there's Toronto. The hub of Canadian culture and commerce and things worth doing. And of course lots of concerts to want to see there. Most especially:
sept 12: Dan Deacon (i rather do love him) w/ Girl Talk (overrated, probably a good party though)
sept 22: Augie March? (see above)
sept 25: Iron and Wine, The Mountain Goats, or Andrew Bird (all at different venues on the same night.. what the flying fuck! I'm probably going to choose mountain goats because i've seen the others before, but iron and wine's new album is flipping awesome, but mountain goats is cheapest and really good opener [bowerbirds])
Oct 8: The National (already have my ticket.. also favourite current band. not gonna miss that. recommend you don't miss it either.)

As for getting to Toronto.. I just got a job there :p so.. it's extremely temporary though. basically standard patient test.. I have to go and pretend there are things wrong with me and see if people taking the test can deal with it properly. it's four separate days in toronto through mid and late sept, which seemed like such a hassle. Except when I found out that two of the days were sept 13th and 24th.. so i'll be able to be around TO for 2 of those concerts and be partially reimbursed for travel (they still think I live in Hamilton and I've been advised that this particular organization is a bit stingy and prolly won't give me more for travelling).
for the national i may try and borrow the van for the evening, or see if anyone else in London is planning on making the trip.

Ok if I had anything else to talk about, I sure as hell don't remember anymore.
And apologies to everyone who doesn't care about underground music and actually read all of that.

2 orders of business today (meant to post this a couple days or a week ago, but ah ya know)

the first is Nailing the Hammer! yos. As people on facebook and certain others already know, the play i co-created with 2 friends is in the Hamilton Fringe Festival.. it opened last weekend, and there's 3 more shows.. on friday evening, saturday early evening and sunday afternoon. (details at www.productivesmog.com or www.hamiltonfringe.ca) it's almost like it was made for people coming from out of town to check it out :O. Anyway I'd really love it all of you could come out and see it, especially if you missed it the first time around. It's been a lot of work getting this thing going, and I think it's even rather good. Which is to say I'm generally very pleased with how it's turned out. Also the mayor of Hamilton said he thought it should be required viewing! so.. well.. yeah I know he's probably a bit biased, but still.

Anyway, I think my parents may be going up on Sunday and they probably have some free room in the car, but I don't know how much.. but probably at least 2 seats. I know Adam K was thinking of going up on Saturday, but I'm not sure if that's going on or not. Phil has also said he might try to go on Friday.. but that was rather indefinite. So yeah. If someone is for sure coming on Friday that would be awesome, cause then we might be able to keep brian for one extra show.. as he's running sound effects and the guy who was going to replace him is not gonna be there then.. heh.

the second order of business is geek related. I'm gonna be pre-ordering GURPS: Martial Arts from sjgames' online store called warehouse23. I'm so stoked for this book I must preorder it from them as they will ship it first, y'know. Now shipping from them is rather expensive.. so I thought, maybe some of you in the hinterlands or the nearlands of my lj friendslist would like something from w23.. now they don't just sell gurps stuff.. they have most popular systems (dnd, white wolf, though you might wanna hold off buying dnd stuff till 4e is available next year) as well as accessories like dice and plush toys and some pretty cool tshirts (http://warehouse23.com/info/tshirts.html#aaron) as well as like cardgames (munchkin) and board games and all sorts of crazy shit. so if there's anything there you're interested in, lemme know, and you can get it for the price there and no shipping charge. :)

I've been pretty psyched about this movie for a while. Premise in brief - classic film noir in a high school.. I know at least Caleb was quite interested.

Also.. Zees weekend. There is a shindig in effect on Saturday in Waterloo to celebrate Colin's 22nd birthday, and I guess mine too, since it's as close to saturday as his is. As a birthday present from me to you (i swear it's not supposed to work like that) I'm going to be providing shiny white vanny transportation. Air conditioned, comfortable seating, and guaranteed good music is offered. So if you would like a spot in the harpmobile (as currently undecorated as it may be), speak up.
I will be leaving probably around 1:30-2:00 and heading back that night. Cause I'm pretty fricking happy.

On the life front..
I've been mad busy with stuff so I haven't had time to do anything useful. I did write a retardedly bad essay, though. I will almost have time to breathe this week, which is nice. I need to watch two new episodes of Rome. I need to go shopping for food, but I won't have a chance until Wednesday. I have a beard now for no other reason than that I'm lazy. I got a 3300 dollar cheque from the university. I'm dead dead dead tired. My room's so messy I can't easily walk in it. I haven't showered in several days and I'm wearing exactly what I wore yesterday, including underwear. Yeah, gross. I ate supper tonight at 2am. Can't really complain, though. Things are going pretty good.

Or at least, be more likely to.

Cons: You won't go to my site anymore. I like my site. Also, it will get fewer hits. My site looks way better than lj because i don't have time to learn how themes work. The stuff on my site isn't usually conventional lj-type fare so it would confuse people. It's a little bit more work for me.

Discuss!

Oh, also. On my site I can do whatever I want. For instance, I could have a poll without having to pay some asshole in a tweed suit.
